Cedric Dominic Staten was charged with one count of murder, officials said. He allegedly punched Eddy Nwanyanwu, 53, in the head at least once, knocking him to the ground Feb. 10 outside a check cashing business in the 12800 block of South Prairie Avenue in Hawthorne.

Nwanyanwu was involved in a parking dispute with a woman, police said.

That woman then made a phone call and summoned a family member, who police believe is Staten.

Nwanyanwu went inside the check cashing store and when he walked out, he was approached by a man.

Surveillance footage shows Staten allegedly approaching Nwanyanwu in the parking lot, punching him and then running from the area, police said.
