Arrest Made in Sex Assault of UCLA Student, Police Say

An arrest has been made in the case of a UCLA student who reported to police that she was sexually assaulted by a man who walked her home after a house party near campus a week ago, police said.

The victim said she was sexually assaulted last Thursday after she was escorted to her room when she left a house party in the 10900 block of Strathmore Avenue around 11 p.m., according to the UCLA Police Department.

Police on Thursday said the alleged attacker, identified as 21-year-old Kvon Devonte Harris, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of rape.

Harris allegedly contacted the victim after the assault, allowing officers to identify him, police said.

The suspect was known to visit the UCLA area and was also wanted in a forgery and check fraud case. Officers spotted him in a coffee shop in the 10900 block of Weyburn Avenue and took him into custody without incident. He was taken to Men's Centrail Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $140,000 bail.

The incident marks the third reported sexual assault either on or near the UCLA campus this year.
