Suspect in Redondo Beach Double Homicide Arrested in Mexico

Jonathan Chacon was taken into custody late Tuesday by Mexican authorities

A suspect in the slayings of a mother and her daughter in Redondo Beach was arrested late Tuesday at a Baja California hotel.

Mexican authorities took Jonathan Chacon, 23, into custody in Rosarito Beach. He was transferred back to the United States and was in the custody of the Redondo Beach Police Department early Wednesday.

"We do believe that these two females are the victims of foul play," Cpt. Jeff Hink of the Redondo Beach Police Dept. said Tuesday afternoon in a news conference near 1903 Rockefeller Lane,  where the two bodies were found Tuesday morning.

Chacon is believed to be the boyfriend of the younger victim. Friends told NBC4 the two met at Redondo Union High School.

The victims' identities have not been released.

Later Wednesday, authorities located the black 1996 Ford Mustang convertible that Chacon was driving. The vehicle was located in Mission Viejo after a caller told police the car was parked near the 5 Freeway.

The investigation began after a co-worker of the mother became concerned because the woman did not arrive for work. The co-worker checked at the woman's residence and discovered the bodies on a floor inside the home, according to investigators.

Detectives worked Wednesday night with Homeland Security Investigations, Customs and Border Protection and Mexican authorities to locate Chacon.

No weapons have been recovered and police have not said how the victims were killed.
