Arrest Made in Connection With Deadly Santa Ana Shooting

Man allegedly fired into a car, killing one man and critically wounding two women

A man accused of shooting into a car at a Santa Ana intersection, killing one man and critically injuring two women, has been arrested, officials said Thursday.

Dustin Sean Ross McDonald, 23, was arrested Wednesday night near his Garden Grove home, police said. He is expected to be charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the shooting, police said.

Detectives said the three victims were parked on 12th Street near Main Street and approached by a lone male gunman around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. The gunman fired seven to 10 shots into the red sedan.

It is unclear whether there was an altercation before the shooting, but nearby residents said they didn't hear a fight.

Aaron Johnathan Chavez, 23, a passenger in the car, died at the scene. A woman friends identified as his 21-year-old girlfriend and another 28-year-old woman were taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso.

Both women remain hospitalized. A suspected motive for the shooting has not been disclosed by officials.
