Arsonist Responsible for Multiple Fires Sought

Deputies are asking for the public's help in identifying the person responsible for multiple arsons in the city of Highland.

During the past weeks, several arson fires have been started in the neighborhoods bordered by the Warm Creek Flood Channel and Baseline, East of Del Rosa, West of Sterling, South of 13th and Jane, and North of Paloma.

The majority of the fires have been in the city of Highland, with a few in the city of San Bernardino, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Most are vegetation fires and the suspect appears to favor palm trees, which are highly flammable.

Based on the circumstances of each fire, it appears a single serial arsonist may be responsible.

Several homes and structures have been threatened from these fires, including the old East Valley Water District buildings.

The fire department has been able to respond quickly and extinguish the fires before they spread, but officials fear the worst with the drought.

Anyone who has suspect information is asked to call the Highland Sheriff's Station. Those wishing to remain anonymous may report information to We-Tip at 1-800-78-CRIME or via the internet at www.wetip.com.
