As Leads Run Dry, La Habra Offers $25,000 Reward in Hit-and-Run That Killed Mother

A $25,000 reward is being offered to help find a hit-and-run driver who La Habra police say struck a mother and left her to die in the street last fall.

Linda May Lopez, 60, was crossing the street at Whittier Boulevard near Citrus Street on the night of Nov. 13 when a vehicle believed to be an SUV struck her and kept going, according to the La Habra Police Department. Lopez was taken to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Lopez' family is convinced their mother might have survived if that driver had stopped.

"From the time it happened until I got there was 10-15 minutes, so if someone would have aided it would have made a big difference," said her son, C.J. Lopez.

Her family says she had a car and they can't figure out why she would try to walk across the street alone at night.

Police believe they're getting closer to finding the car and the driver. But with leads running dry, a reward was offered by the city Wednesday.

Investigators are looking for a Toyota 4Runner. They believe it is missing a passenger side rear view mirror, has front-side damage and may also be missing the front fender flare.

Police say they want the driver to know they haven't forgotten about the collision, even if the car has been repaired they are convinced the reward might help someone's memory.

"She was real good-hearted, kind person. Give you the shirt off her back if she could," said her other son, Jayson Ramos. "She's going to be greatly missed that's for sure."

Lopez's death was one of only two fatal traffic collisions in the city southeast of Los Angeles in all of 2015.
