The LAPD's new BatCat robot can dispose of explosive ordinance, respond to hazardous material situations and provide port security.

That's great, but the Caterpillar TL 1255 Telehandler also can lift cars and repeatedly drop them, as shown in the video below. The supersized forklift on steroids then moves on to larger prey -- a van and storage building.

The Telehandler is made by Remotec Inc., a Northrup Grumman Corp. subsidiary in Tennessee and Autonomous Solutions Inc.

The remotely operated robot can lift 12,000 pounds. It has a forward reach of 40 feet. It extends upward about 50 feet.

Expect to see it in action during LAPD bomb squad operations.
