4 People in Custody After Barricade in South LA Home

Four people were in custody after as many as four people barricaded themselves inside a home after an attempted carjacking early Thursday morning, police said.

According to police, five men and one male victim were involved in the attack that occurred around 1 a.m. in front of a home in the neighborhood. Officers at the scene said one man fired at least one shot during the attempted carjacking, but the victim was not injured.

Although one person was initially taken into custody, the Los Angeles Police Department said at least one man ran into a home near the intersection of 42nd Street and Van Buren Place, where they believe he lives. There were other people and at least one handgun in the house, police said.

The neighborhood was put on lockdown Thursday morning. Nearby homes were evacuated and a SWAT team, including crisis negotiators, responded to the neighborhood.

As of 8:15 a.m. Thursday, four people were in custody, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Tear gas was used to help get people to leave the house.
