They're a lot cheaper than a DUI…and they taste better too.

As part of an effort to promote responsible driving, Los Angeles-based mixologists went toe-to-toe (or shaker-to-shaker) to decide who could create the very best “mocktails.”

The event was sponsored by the Insurance Information Network of California along with support from the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department.

The competition showcased various non-alcoholic recipes hosts can serve during the holidays to help keep their guests safe on the ride home.

Nominees included names like Cherry Poinsettia, Santa’s Milk & Cookies, and Poolside Passion.

The winning drink was "Tropical Tease" created by Trader Vic's. The 'Tease" combines green tea with ginger, grenadine and Passion Fruit syrup and is served both hot and cold. The drink also won awards for creativity and simplicity.

The award for Taste went to Luck Strike Lanes and Lounge for Grandma’s Apple Pie, a creamy pie-like confection topped with cinnamon and graham crackers.

You can find the rest of the winning recipes here.

Judges included NFL offensive tackle and television celebrity Ephraim Salaam, LAPD Lt. Terri Brinkmeyer, CHP Officer Charmaine Fajardo and IINC Executive Director Candysse Miller. ESPN Radio personality Mark Willard served as master of ceremonies.

According to IINC, the average cost of a DUI including court costs, insurance premiums, and attorneys' fees can exceed $10,000.

A "Tropical Tease" is a lot cheaper.
