Bear Spotted Behind Indio Car Dealership Set to be Returned to the Wild

A bear roaming the area behind an Indio car dealership was set to be returned to the wild Sunday morning.

Animal services received a call about a bear behind a Fiesta Ford dealership off Varner Rd. and Adams St. around 6 a.m., said Riverside County Department of Animal Services Senior Public Information Specialist John Welsh.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department and California Highway Patrol also responded to the scene, Welsh said.

The 2 to 3-year-old, 100 to 200-pound female bear was hiding in the bushes along a wall before it was tranquilized by a California Department of Fish and Wildlife warden, Welsh said.

The bear was healthy and set to be released in the Santa Rosa Mountains.
