An NBC4 News crew came face to face with a mama bear and her two cubs Saturday night in Pasadena. Earlier in the day, the bears were spotted taking a dip in a backyard hot tub. Antonio Castelan reports from Pasadena for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on July 7, 2012.
A mama bear and her two cubs took a leisurely stroll through a Pasadena neighborhood Saturday afternoon.
A resident in the 1400 block of Edgecliff Lane snapped photos of the black bear family walking through the backyard and taking a dip in a hot tub.
Later that night, an NBC4 News crew came face to face with the bears. Video shows the mama bear and her two cubs staring into the news camera, their eyes reflecting like bright jewels in the darkness.
There was a similar bear sighting in the same neighborhood back in May.
One man who's lived on the street for 40 years says he's used to seeing this sort of thing in the neighborhood.
"They come into our yards," Steve Lazarian said. "Some people are a little wary of them."
The cubs were likely looking for food and water, animal control officers said.
"If they have the cubs with them, they are going to protect them," Lazarian said. "They may growl at you. Keep your distance I guess."
