Spring, that flowerful, sweet-of-breeze, deep-of-hope season, just calls out for celebration, for songs to be sung, and for happy humans to gather and greet a time of renewal and rebirth.

And while we happy humans plan many parties in honor of spring's sweet arrival, there is a celebration that is embraced around the planet, by tens of millions of people, each March.

It's the Farhang Foundation's Nowruz celebration, a traditional Iranian occasion that welcomes the New Year through parades, costumes, concerts, and the closeness of community. And it so happens that what's billed as "the largest Nowruz celebration in the United States" dances right here in Los Angeles each year.

At UCLA, to be specific, which is where the free event, the 11th annual go-around of the happening, will take place on Sunday, March 10.

There are several highlights to anticipate throughout the day, including the Spring Walk parade, the puppet shows, and all of the nifty things for kids to do.

One must-see? The "large-scale Haft-Sîn display (a symbolic and traditional Iranian Tablescape celebrating the spring solstice)" is also a centerpiece, as is the Iranian Tea House.

One note about the activity-filled day, which is presented by the Farhang Foundation?

While most goings-on are of the pay-nothing variety, the Royce Hall concert that evening, with the legendary performer Parisa, "The Grande Dame of Iranian Classical Music," is ticketed.

That's at 6 p.m., while the stilt walkers, dance presentations, Spring Walk, and other non-ticketed to-dos will happen over five festive hours, from noon to 5 o'clock.
