Beverly Hills: Free Dalí Exhibit

Look for dramatic pieces from the surrealists around the Golden Triangle.

It can be stated, with an extreme display of confidence as well as a dose of bravado, that Salvador Dalí was an artist who rather embraced theatricality and staging.

Of course, when you're an icon of the surrealism movement, a form that flagrantly tangos with all manner of visual eye-poppery, you naturally grativate to stunning settings.

Beverly Hills and its unique opulence qualify on the fantasy front, most definitely, which makes Two Rodeo Drive an excellent location for the displaying of sculptures by the master.

"Dalí Exhibit at Two Rodeo Drive" is on now, through Friday, Sept. 23, at the shop-lined locale.

"Comprised of Dalí's three-dimensional bronze monumental and museum-sized sculptures," the exhibition is billed as "the largest collection of Salvador Dalí sculptures displayed in an open environment outside of a museum or gallery setting," says an exhibit representative.

There are a dozen out-sized artworks in all, including "Saint George and the Dragon," "The Unicorn," and "The Persistence of Memory," which is often referred to, with affection, as "The Melting Clocks" (or some variation on that theme).

That trio of monumental sculptures, as well as "Woman Aflame," are described as being "up to 12 feet tall."

Galerie Michele and Two Rode Drive are the co-presenters of the exhibit, with a sponsorship with the Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau.

Hoping for a docent tour of the pieces? Galerie Michael is offering them every weekend, four times a day, beginning at 10 o'clock. The informative talks are all complimentary.

And while viewing the sculptures requires no fee, donations are being accepted at Galerie Michael, in support of Operation Smile. The organization will also receive a "percentage of sales" from any sculptures sold during the summer show.
