‘Big A Bandit' Strikes OC Bank, Uses Handgun to Intimidate Teller

The Bank Robbery Apprehension Team from the FBI released photos of the robber and is asking anyone with information to call 310-477-6565.

He's being dubbed the "Big A Bandit" because of a baseball cap he wears while robbing banks, including one in Orange County on Thursday, and now the FBI wants the public's help to identify him.

Bank of the West in the 3200 block of Yorba Linda Boulevard in Fullerton was the latest target for the "Big A Bandit," who is also linked to five other bank robberies in Southern California.

The Fullerton branch was robbed just before 4 a.m. Thursday by a white man described as in his 50s wearing a red Anaheim Angels shirt and with a big "A" baseball cap on. He stands about 5 feet 10 inches tall, between 190 and 200 pounds, and has a beard.

During Thursday's robbery he displayed a handgun to the teller and used profanity as he demanded large bills that were stuffed into a white envelope for him to carry the cash out with, according to the FBI.

The "Big A Bandit" first caught authorities' attention on May 10, 2013 when a Bank of the West, also in Fullerton, was robbed.

Since then, robberies have occurred on:

  • October 4, 2013 at Bank of the West in Fullerton
  • December 6, 2013 at Bank of the West in Fullerton
  • June 2, 2015 at Comerica Bank in Anaheim
  • June 26, 2015 at Bank of West in La Habra
  • July 2, 2015 at Bank of West in Fullerton
