Big-Rig Collision at 118 and 5 Freeways

Traffic was backed up for miles on the eastbound 118

A big-rig truck and another vehicle collided at the interchange of the 118 and 5 freeways in the San Fernando area, backing up traffic just as rush hour was beginning Thursday afternoon.

The collision was reported at 3:38 p.m. on the transition road from eastbound Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway to the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway, the Los Angeles Fire Department said in emailed alerts to media.

The car and truck collided, and the silver sedan went down an embankment, aerial video showed. The big-rig was jackknifed on the side of the roadway, and traffic on all lanes of the 118 appeared to be backed up.

There were two people injured, the fire department said. Three other vehicles had been involved in a related collision, the California Highway Patrol reported on its online incident information page.
