Blue Line Construction Interrupts Service

Metro contractors and crews are putting the finishing touches on the rail connection at Washington Boulevard and Flower Street

Major construction work near Staples Center interrupted service on the Metro Blue line Sunday.

Metro contractors and crews are putting the finishing touches on the rail connection at Washington Boulevard and Flower Street, where the Expo Line branches off the existing Blue Line tracks.

Blue Line passengers had to use buses to travel between the Washington, San Pedro Street, Grand, Pico and 7th Street stations.

The rail junction is in the middle of a busy intersection open to street traffic, which must be repaved, Metro said.

Crews this weekend are installing and turning on overhead electrical supply cables, and testing switches, Metro officials said.

Metro officials said the new entrances will improve passenger flow and safety during events at LA Live, the Convention Center and Staples Center.

A few blocks north, Metro is remodeling the entrance to the Pico Station, which frequently is overcrowded when events at the nearby sports arena end.
