A boat loaded with marijuana was split in two Friday as it was tossed in massive waves near Point Mugu, according to investigators.
The cargo -- about 250 pounds of marijuana -- was found floating in burlap bags. The boat wreckage was scattered among rocks south of Point Mugu State Park.
Crews searched the area, but did not find the passengers. The call came in as a vessel in distress.
Documents found inside the 20-foot panga-style fishing boat were in Spanish, leading authorities to believe it might have come from Mexico.
