A coroner's vehicle responds to the scene in Angelus Oaks where a man's body was found in a car owned by a shooting suspect.

A body found in a car on a mountain road in San Bernardino County Saturday may be that of a suspect wanted for shooting at an officer in Yucaipa a day earlier.

The man's corpse was found about 1 p.m. Saturday in the car that a suspect fled in after shooting at a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputy and ramming a patrol vehicle, authorities said.

The suspect's car, a white Buick, was discovered in a turnout along Highway 38 in Angelus Oaks on Saturday, sheriff's Corporal Randy Naquin said.

"There was a male subject in the vehicle that appeared to be deceased. The body was basically just slumped over," Naquin said.

The car belongs to Brian Forrett, a 52-year-old from Riverside, who has been sought by authorities since he became suspected in the officer-involved-shooting.

On Saturday evening, Naquin said that detective were still gathering evidence and had not moved the body, which had not yet been identified.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported that authorities announced a stand down in the search for Forrett in a general broadcast to law enforcement agencies.

Forrett, pictured at right, allegedly shot at a rookie deputy who was responding to a report of an unwanted subject in the 11900 block of Second Street in Yucaipa at about 11:20 a.m. Friday, according to a sheriff's department press release.

Forrett allegedly fired on the deputy, who took cover, returned fire and was not injured. The suspect then rammed his white Buick into the deputy's patrol vehicle and drove away after sustained significant damage to his car.

Forrett was considered armed and dangerous.
