A body was found near where a 59-year-old woman with medical issues went on a hike with a friend five days earlier in Big Bear, San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials said on Saturday.
Karen Dalman went hiking on Tuesday in the Crystal Mountain area with fellow Big Bear resident Bruce Jackson and his pit bull.
The two became separated from their dog and each other at some point and Jackson made it to his car on Thursday, officials said. He appeared to be delirious and was treated for dehydration, authorities said.
From his home, he reported Dalman missing on Thursday when a search was launched, officials said. Authorities said Jackson waited to report his friend missing until he got home because he didn't have a cellphone with him.
Dalman only set out for what appeared to be a day hike, officials said. She had light clothing and no food, officials said. She suffers from a health condition that affects her ability to walk, authorities added.
It was unclear whether she brought medication with her.

The missing pit bull was found dehydrated and tired late Friday in Cactus Flats, north of Baldwin Lake. Along with the discovery of the dog, authorities found Dalman's purse, a small bucket and a nearly empty bottle of water.
