Woman's Body Found at LA Apartment Fire; Boyfriend Sought

Firefighters found a woman’s body inside a two-story apartment building that was on fire in Northwest Los Angeles on Saturday morning, officials said.

The woman, who was not identified, was found in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds, according to Los Angeles Police Department Det. Robert Bub. He said investigators suspect the fire was set to cover up the killing.

Police were searching for the woman's boyfriend, Bub said. Police did not name him.

The Van Nuys fire, in the 14000 block of Saticoy Street, was extinguished about 5:20 a.m., another LAPD spokesman said. This article initially reported incorrectly the city in which the fire was located.

Witnesses told police they heard the couple fighting in the unit about an hour before the fire broke out.
Arson investigators were waiting for a search warrant to look into the cause of the fire, police said.

No one else was hurt in the fire.
