A homicide investigation was underway Thursday after police found the body of a dead woman floating in a Boyle Heights lake.
The woman was found after reports of a person suffering cardiac arrest about 10 a.m. in the 2000 block of East Fourth Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
She was identified as a 36-year-old transient who went by the names Lorenza Arellano and Lorenza Scala, coroner officials said. She was found floating face down in the lake wearing only undergarments, police said.
There were no signs of obvious trauma to her body.
Park visitors were on edge after the discovery.
"It's kind of scary," a visitor told NBC4. "Sometimes I think the park isn't well-lit at night, and it's kind of scary knowing I live right across the street."
"I've never heard of anything like this in this park," another resident said. "It's pretty gruesome to find out something like that happened."
Police were expected to comb through missing persons cases in the area as they investigate how the woman ended up in the lake.
