Body Found in Refrigerator in Ontario Industrial Area

A body has been found inside a refrigerator on a street in an industrial area in southwestern San Bernardino County.

Ontario Police Sgt. Jeff Higbee said officers were called to the scene around 6 a.m. Tuesday. The man's body was discovered inside a refrigerator on a block lined with industrial businesses in the city about 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Steven Kelly made the gruesome discovery and called police. He said the refrigerator's door was wide open, revealing the body inside and the victim's face covered by a hooded sweatshirt.

"I thought maybe he was an overdose victim or something like that so I tried to tap the side of the refrigerator to wake him up and he wasn't moving," Kelly said. "He could have had a gunshot wound for all I know. I couldn't see anything, just a guy who looked like somebody sleeping in a refrigerator."

Police said the victim was Hispanic and about 35 years old.

It appears the body was placed in the refrigerator, which was then dumped in the street outside a fenced-in property.

"We're in the process of knocking on all the doors of businesses to see if anybody has video in the area," said Higbee.

Police say one surveillance camera captured a light-colored pickup truck that may have been used to transport the refrigerator.

There is a residential neighborhood to the north of the area.

Police could not immediately provide any additional information. Detectives remained at the scene late Tuesday morning.
