Bomb Squad Destroys Grenade Found in Pomona Home

A bomb squad destroyed a grenade found by a woman who was cleaning a garage in Pomona on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The woman said she was cleaning her step-father's garage in the 600 block of West Fernleaf Avenue (map) when she found the grenade in a tool box, according to the Pomona Police Department.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's bomb squad "felt that the grenade appeared to be an old, real grenade that belonged to a war veteran who recently passed away. They took possession of the grenade to destroy it in a safe environment," police said in a statement.

No evacuations were ordered, but officers went door to door to inform neighbors.
