Bomb Threat Closes Downtown Street

A suspicious backpack was found shortly after 8 a.m. near Los Angeles Street and Olympic

An unattended backpack prompted the closure of a street in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday, but a bomb squad determined there were no explosives in the pack.

The backpack was found shortly after 8 a.m. near Los Angeles Street and Olympic Boulevard, and traffic was routed away from the area, said Los Angeles police Officer Norma Eisenman. A bomb squad was sent the area, and used a robot to help determine what was inside.

Two men who were found near the package were held for questioning by police, but it was unclear if they had any role in the incident, according to KABC-TV.

The area was declared safe shortly after 10 a.m. and the street was reopened, according to police.
