An 8-year-old boy was in stable condition after being shot in South Los Angeles on Saturday night, police said.

The boy was playing outside at some point before 6:45 p.m. when someone began shooting at a house near Imperial Highway and Avalon Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The boy was struck in the shoulder and hip.

Family members took the boy to Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. He was then transferred to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where he was being treated for his wounds.

Police said they do not believe the boy was the intended target.

No arrests have been made.
