Boy Arrested for Allegedly Setting Series of Fires in Costa Mesa

A 13-year-old boy was booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of setting a series of small fires in Costa Mesa over the weekend, police reported today.

The boy, whose name was not released due to his age, is accused of setting seven separate blazes throughout the city, beginning about 11 p.m. Saturday in a trash bin at 1500 Adams Avenue.

Crews were then dispatched to a Honda dealership at 2888 Harbor Blvd., where a small tree and other vegetation was ignited, and to the the Metro Car Wash at 2950 Harbor Blvd., which was closed at the time, police said.

On Sunday, at 11:30 a.m., a motorhome was set ablaze at 1520 Ponderosa St., and crews also doused a small brush fire at 3030 Harbor Blvd., put out a debris fire next to a fence at 2925 Redwood Ave., where residents were home and escaped any injury.

The teen is also accused of setting a large tree afire at 1370 Adams Ave., police said.
