New York Boy's Make-a-Wish to Meet Pope Granted

"I was so impressed with his sincerity and his humility and I knew it was truly the wish that was in his heart."

Most 11-year-olds' wishes would likely be meeting a sports star or taking a dream trip to Disney World -- but not so for Landon, whose one wish is to meet the Pope.

Landon LaChance, who suffers from a rare genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis, said he wanted to meet the hope because perhaps the leader of the Catholic church could work a miracle.

"I think he's just focusing on getting better and being normal," Mary LaChance told WNYT. "He's trying to be as normal as he can and he just wants to be free of the tumors and pray for a miracle."

Landon received a mini-miracle at Sunday mass when Make-a-Wish let him know he would be meeting the Pope.

"I was so impressed with his sincerity and his humility and I knew it was truly the wish that was in his heart," Make-a-Wish's Kirsten Broschinsky told WNYT.

In a few weeks, he and his family will board a plane to the Vatican.

"It was a very hard decision to make," Landon told WNYT. "I wanted to go see the Pope and I wanted to see if this would help, getting blessed by the Pope."
