Braves Snap Dodgers 11-Game Win Streak, 6-3, in Return to Dodger Stadium

Kurt Suzuki homered and the Atlanta Braves snapped the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-game win-streak, 6-3, on Thursday night at Chavez Ravine.

Leave it to old friend Matt Kemp to snap the streak.

Kurt Suzuki homered and the Atlanta Braves snapped the Los Angeles Dodgers season-high 11-game win-streak, 6-3, on Thursday night at Chavez Ravine.

Brandon McCarthy got off to a rough start as four of the first five Braves' batters reached base in a wild two-run first inning that put Atlanta out in front.

"They're a really aggressive team and they made me pay," McCarthy said about the first inning. "Oddly enough, I feel happy today outside of the actual results."

Cody Bellinger drove home Chase Utley in the bottom half of the frame as the Dodgers cut the lead in half.

Bellinger's RBI was his team-leading 63rd RBI of the season as the rookie All-Star is batting .304 with 14 home runs in his last 34 games.

Suzuki broke the game open with a two-run homer off McCarthy in the top of the fourth and Atlanta never looked back.

"The pitch to Suzuki I'm not thrilled with," McCarthy said of the elevated sinker that Suzuki hit out of the ballpark. "That's just an execution error on my part. They put the bat on the ball enough to make things go their way."

McCarthy (6-4) allowed a season-high six runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts in just four short innings. It was one of his worst starts of the season.

"A blister formed during the game," Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts told the media of McCarthy after the game. "I definitely don't think it's mental, but probably mechanics and the blister as well."

Yasmani Grandal--who had a root canal procedure earlier in the day--tried to bring the Boys in Blue back with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the rally ultimately fell short.

"I had the appointment this morning, so I'm probably going on maybe three or four hours of sleep," said Grandal about the root canal. "I already had my mind set that I know this is going to suck, but I wanted to play through it and try and win a game today."

Mike Foltynewicz (8-5) earned his career-high fifth straight decision, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 6 and 1/3 strong innings.

"Everything felt good," Foltynewicz said. "Overall, it was a good night, the offense came up big. It's good to start this series off the right way."

In his last nine starts, Foltynewicz is 5-0 with a 3.33 ERA, the best stretch of his young career.

Former Dodger, Jim Johnson, pitched the bottom of the ninth for his 22nd save of the season.

The Dodgers 11-game win streak was tied for the longest in the Majors with the Houston Astros, and was there second double-digit wining streak this season.

The loss was just the second at Dodger Stadium in their last 20 games at home, and Los Angeles still has the best home record in the Majors, and the highest winning percentage at Chavez Ravine in franchise history.

So long, Sergio Romo

Before the game, the Dodgers reinstated left-hander Grant Dayton and designated Sergio Romo for assignment, likely ending his brief time with Los Angeles.

LHP Jamie Garcia was supposed to start on Friday for the Braves, but he was traded to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. If the trade goes through on Friday, the starter will likely be a call up. Alex Wood will put his perfect 11-0 record on the line opposite whomever starts for the Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10PM PST.
