Police Search Locks Down Elementary School, Prompts Shelter-in-Place Orders

Residents in a Brea neighborhood were told to stay indoors and at least one elementary school was on lockdown Monday afternoon while police combed the area for three suspected burglars.

The Brea Police Department issued a statement at 3:35 p.m. warning residents to stay inside with their doors and windows locked.

The search forced the lockdown of Arovista Elementary School, where about 50 students and faculty remained on campus by 4:30 p.m. A school official told NBC4 police lifted the lockdown shortly before 5 p.m and parents are now allowed to pick up their children.

Police were searching for three alleged burglars, all men, who led them on a chase from Diamond Bar to Brea, where they crashed at Brea Boulevard and Imperial Highway. The trio then ran about a half mile west and into a housing complex at Arovista Avenue and Imperial Highway.

It was not immediately known where or how many of the men were apprehended.
