A four-acre brush fire shut down Topanga Canyon Boulevard in both directions Saturday and caused traffic backups from Malibu to Woodland Hills.
The fire was reported just before 3:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Topanga Canyon Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The fire was running in heavy brush with structures threatened, the LA County Fire Department said.
Traffic was stopped on Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Mulholland Drive, the fire department said. There also appeared to be traffic backed up on Pacific Coast Highway near Topanga Canyon Boulevard, as traffic was not being allowed to turn onto Topanga Canyon Boulevard from PCH.
Newschopper4 Bravo observed Topanga Canyon Boulevard being closed in both directions from Mulholland Drive to PCH.
Super Scooper planes were being used to fight the flames.
At 4:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol West Valley Division announced that the LACFD had stopped forward progress on the fire but that road closures were still in effect. The public was advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

As of 6:42 p.m., the fire was 80% contained and Topanga Canyon Boulevard was open for residents only from Mulholland Drive to Old Topanga Canyon Road, according to the CHP West Valley division.
As of 9:16 p.m., lanes were open in both directions but controlled by flagging operation with escorts from Oakwood Drive to Tiger Trail, according to Caltrans District 7.
