Brush Fire Burns Sherman Oaks Hillside

A brush fire broke out Friday afternoon near hillside homes in Sherman Oaks, scorching about two acres before being extinguished.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 4:20 p.m. in the 14600 block of West Deervale Place, according to Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

More than 75 firefighters backed by water-dropping helicopters knocked down the fire in one hour, Scott said. Proper brush clearance on the part of residents and the quick work of firefighters kept nearby homes from being threatened, he said.

Firefighters remained on scene after the flames were extinguished as helicopters continued to make cooling water drops, Scott said.
