Brush Fire Burns Along 5 Freeway in Gorman

What was first reported as a spot fire near the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in the Gorman area Friday quickly turned into a 100-acre two-alarm blaze, authorities said.

No structures were threatened by the fire, which was reported about 3:30 p.m. south of Gorman Post Road, east of the freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

County and U.S. Forest Service firefighters mounted a ground and air attack but within two hours the fire had burned about 100 acres.

The blaze had charred 135 acres and was 95 percent contained as of 11 p.m., the county fire department reported.
