The brush fire, dubbed the Lebec Fire, had burned five acres just before noon.

Kern County firefighters are fighting a brush fire threatening homes in Digier Canyon, the Kern County Fire Department said Friday.

The brush fire, dubbed the Lebec Fire, had burned five acres just before noon, according to the Kern County Fire Department. About an hour later, the blaze had grown to 10 acres in size.

A post on the Kern County Fire Department's Facebook page urged residents who live in Digier Canyon to evacuate.

The fire was burning on the southbound side of the 5 Freeway, according to a California Highway Patrol Fort Tejon officer. The fire was moving away from the freeway, and the freeway was not being impacted by the blaze.

Recommended evacuations were in place for Digier Canyon, according to Kern County Fire officials.
