SoCal Officials, FBI Search for “Plain Jane” Bank Robber

Police say the woman has struck five banks in July alone.

The FBI has joined police in four Southland cities to search for a repeat bank robber they’ve nicknamed “Plain Jane,” a moniker inspired by a witness who described the woman as unassuming.

Law enforcement officials believe the woman has struck five banks this month alone – including three in 24 hours.

That marathon began Monday afternoon when she allegedly robbed two banks in the city of Moreno Valley and continued Tuesday morning with a robbery in Buena Park.

The Plain Jane Bandit is described as a Latino woman between 5-feet-2-inches and 5-feet-5-inches tall, weighing about 160 to 180 pounds. She is thought to be between 33 and 40 years old, officials said.

Surveillance video has linked the woman to bank robberies in Santa Fe Springs on July 12 and, a week later, a robbery in Whittier.

Four of the five banks robbed were U.S. Banks and the fifth, in Moreno Valley, was a Chase bank, police said.

Witnesses told police that during the alleged robberies, the Plain Jane Bandit used written and verbal signals to indicate a possible accomplice was waiting outside the bank.
