Intruders Cut Through Fumigation Tent to Enter Mid-City Home

The potentially toxic chemicals forced officers to wear protective suits when they entered the residence

Officers with guns drawn wore protective hazardous materials suit when they entered a home that was under a fumigation tent to investigate a burglary report.

Police arrived at the residence on the 1900 block of South Crescent Heights Boulevard around 9 p.m. Tuesday and discovered the tent was cut and the light was on at the home.

A hazardous materials team and SWAT units were called to the scene to help conduct a search within the house because of the toxic chemicals. The homeowners and authorities are waiting for the fumigation company's go-ahead to enter the home to determine whether items are missing.

No arrests were reported. It was not immediately clear whether the intruders also were wearing mask to protect against toxic chemicals.
