An autopsy was underway to determine the race, age and ID of a man whose body was found dismembered and burned in a Hesperia neighborhood, officials said on Sunday.

The sheriff's department said firefighters were called Sunday morning to put out a fire on the side of the road. When they put the fire out, they saw a dismembered body of a man.

Sheriff's Sgt. John Gaffney told the Victorville Daily Press the man was likely killed somewhere else and dumped in a vacant lot by the roadside.
