Tim Burton in Talks to Direct “Beetlejuice 2” With Michael Keaton to Star

Beetlejuice may once again be hitting the big screen.

Warner Brothers has reached out to Tim Burton to see if he will bring viewers into the world of his 1988 classic "Beetlejuice," according to The Wrap. While nothing is set in stone, Burton is currently in talks to direct the long-awaited sequel.

The film will be produced by The Geffen Company, who produced the original. Burton is already confirmed as a producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Michael Keaton, who played the titular character 25 years ago may also reprise his role as the striped-suit-wearing ghost. Like Burton, his involvement is still unconfirmed but according to Rolling Stone, both are expected to return to work on the project.

Burton has worked with one of the "Beetlejuice 2" screenwriters before. Seth Gramme-Smith wrote the screenplay for Burton's "Dark Shadows" and also penned one of his producing projects: "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."

Burton is also currently set up to direct an on-screen adaptation of Ransom Riggs' novel "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children." No expected date for filming has been announced for either project.

"Beetlejuice" was produced on a budget of $15 million and went on to gross over $73 million at the U.S. box office. The mouthy, trouble-making title character is still a popular costume choice at Halloween, and this latest news should only increase the number of Beetlejuices trick or treating come Oct. 31.
