Attempted kidnapping

CSUN Student Fights Off Attempted Kidnapper

The man told the victim if she continued to yell and scream he would kill her, campus police said.

The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for a man who attempted to kidnap and threatened to kill a female college student on Tuesday.

The female victim, a California State University, Northridge student, was walking along Dearborn Street near the college campus when the attempted kidnapping occurred around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A man grabbed the woman from behind in a "bear hug" and told her if she continued to yell and scream that he would kill her, according to CSUN campus police. The woman kicked and punched and managed to get away.

The would-be kidnapper fled the scene.

The student reported the incident to Cal State Northridge's Department of Police Services. She told campus police that she may have seen the suspect previously on campus at the Oviatt Library.

The man is described as a white male between 25-30 years old and stands about 6 feet 5 inches tall. He has short, dark hair and a 5 o'clock shadow beard. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with an unknown red logo, dark blue jeans and has a tattoo on his right arm.

A notice detailing the attempted kidnapping and crime prevention tips was sent to CSUN students.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact CSUN Police dispatch at 818-677-2111.
