Six boaters tossed into the water off the coast of Cabrillo Beach when their boat capsized Sunday morning have been rescued, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"Baywatch (Los Angeles County) lifeguards righted overturned vessel, de-watered and towed it to Cabrillo Marina. No transports to hospital required," wrote LAFD's Erik Scott in an alert.

The incident was first reported about 7 a.m. near the Los Angeles Harbor (map), Scott wrote.

According to a preliminary investigation, the vessel may have capsized because too many people were on board.
