Possibly Armed Man Barricaded in Calabasas Apartment

A man barricaded in a Calabasas apartment Sunday, forcing residents out of their homes in the area, was taken into custody without incident after hours into the standoff.

The incident began at 3 p.m. in the 5900 block of Las Virgenes Road after a father and son had a dispute, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

A full SWAT response was called to the area when the son, later identified as 26-year-old John Marciniak, barricaded himself in the apartment.

It wasn't clear if the man was armed.

He was wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a gas station on Thursday, deputies said.

Before serving a warrant for his arrest, Marciniak was accused of assaulting his father, which led to him barricading himself in the apartment and refusing to come out.

A crowd, comprised of  evacuated residents and bystanders, had gathered in front of the apartment.

Marciniak surrendered at 11:30 p.m., and no one was injured.
