Vigil Held for Mother Whose Body was Found Near Off-Ramp

Family and friends mourn the loss of Bree-Anna Guzman, whose body was found two years ago

A candlelight vigil was held Thursday for a 22-year-old mother whose body was found near a freeway off-ramp a month after she went missing two years ago.

Bree'Anna Guzman's body was found by a Caltrans crew on Jan. 26, 2012 near the Riverside Drive on-ramp to the southbound Glendale Freeway in Silver Lake. The vigil was held in the same area her body was found.

"I believe that at some point...this is where she took her last breathe or her spirit passed to the other place," her mother Darlene Guzman Duran said. "And I might feel her (here). It's important for me to feel that little gift from her."

Guzman was last seen Dec. 26, 2011 when she made a trip to buy cough drops at a Lincoln Heights Rite Aid.

Police have said that someone might have killed her somewhere else and tossed her body off the side of the freeway.

Rewards of $100,000 were offered for information leading to the person who killed her.

"Know that I'm hurting, that (my daughter's) children are hurting, her friends and family are hurting," Duran said. Detectives were probing possible links between Guzman’s death and that of Michelle Lozano, 17, whose body was found on the side of a freeway on April 25, 2011.

A homeless man spotted the body and contacted police.

The body, which was covered in plastic, appeared to have been dumped, police said.
