Two women and two children were struck by a car late Thursday afternoon in the Santa Ana Civic Center area. police said.

All four along with the driver of the four-door sedan that hit the pedestrians were rushed to a local hospital, said Jose Gonzalez of the city of Santa Ana.

The woman driving the Volvo had a known medical condition that led paramedics to want to take her to the hospital, Gonzalez said.

The woman was driving the Volvo westbound on Spurgeon Street, when it struck the two women, a 1-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl, as they were crossing Civic Center Drive about 4:40 p.m., Gonzalez said.

A 5-year-old boy who was with the others managed to escape being struck, Gonzalez said.

The 3-year-old girl appeared to suffer the most serious injuries as she was trapped under the Volvo, until witnesses had the driver back the vehicle off her so they could pull her out, Gonzalez said.

All four are expected to be okay.

The driver stayed at the scene of the collision, and will not be charged , police told NBC4 News.
