A woman’s Riverside home was severely damaged by a driver who might have been trying to escape nearby gunfire. Police are now looking for the driver of the vehicle, officials said.

The woman’s nephew said his Aunt was just having dinner and watching TV on the couch when a car came crashing into the home on the 2700 block of Prospect Avenue. The front wall of the house was knocked in and several pieces of furniture and dishware were broken as a result of the crash.

The driver and the passenger of the sedan escaped immediately after the crash, witnesses said.

Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Riverside police received several calls reporting shots fired. Shortly after, another emergency call came in saying a car had rammed into a home in the same area.

The sedan carrying two adult males was traveling North on Grove Avenue when the driver likely lost control and crashed into the home, police said. The sedan had been hit by at least two bullets.

The cause of the crash and the situation surrounding it are not yet known.

The homeowner was not injured in the crash, but was transported to the hospital as a precaution and is expected to be okay.
