Off-Duty LAPD Officer Involved in Car-to-Car Shooting: Officials

An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer was involved in a car-to-car shooting in Santa Clarita on Sunday, but was not hurt, authorities said.

The officer was in a pickup truck at the corner of Rainbow Glen Drive and Swallow Court just after 10 a.m. when a white car drove up and someone inside it opened fire, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials said.

Investigators initially said both cars were hit during an exchange of gunfire, but later declined to say whether the officer fired back.

There were no reports of injuries, sheriff's officials said.

"I heard one gun shot, then maybe a one-second delay, then four more gunshots," said neighbor Gary Adams.

One person was being questioned in connection with the shooting.

"The suspect is cooperating with law enforcement and the investigation ongoing," sheriff’s investigators said in a news release.

Investigators said no one else was sought in connection with the case and no arrests had been made.

The officer, a 25-year LAPD veteran, lives in the area, neighbors said.
