SWAT Enters Burger King, No Barricaded Suspect Inside

A Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team that surrounded a Burger King restaurant in the Jefferson Park area of Los Angeles believing an armed carjack suspect was inside entered after several hours and found no one there, authorities said Sunday.

The incident began at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday when the suspect commandeered a car at gunpoint at the Bronco Motel in the 5500 block of South Western Avenue, a desk officer at the LAPD's 77th Street Station said.

The suspect ordered the woman in the car to drive and got out of the car at the Burger King at Crenshaw and Jefferson boulevards, the desk officer said. She returned to the motel and called police.

People fled the restaurant and it was believed the suspect was holed up inside, so the SWAT team was called to the scene, he said.

At about 1 a.m. the SWAT team entered the Burger King and found no one inside, the officer said.
