Surveillance video shows a man pulling up in a dark-colored car, opening his trunk, then re-entering the vehicle. Moments later, Cow Cow wanders out in front of the car and is struck by the driver, who had backed up the car before accelerating directly toward the 5-year-old Chihuahua.

The video above shows the moments before impact.

"Cow Cow is run completely over," Hawthorne police said in a statement. "The vehicle continues on out of sight."

A nearby resident later discovered the dog's body and placed it in the bag that it was found in.
