George Takei -- decked out in his Star Trek costume -- and Brad Altman with some type of tinfoil hat  shot a public service announcement for the 2010 Census.

The message is about same-sex couples being counted. It's also about Altman, who has no problem sharing the spotlight -- actually, a couch -- with the accomplished Mr. Takei.

"He has turned into a diva -- a tinfoil diva," said George Takei of his partner Brad Altman. "I hope the nut, the message itself, communicates a side of just being entertaining."

Takei and Altman created a one-minute public service advertisement encouraging members of the LGBT community to fill out the census form accurately and quickly. The deadline is April 1.

"This is the first time in history that the census has counted people who are in same-sex marriages or same sex relationships," said Altman. "It's a great step in the right direction for the LGBT community to have the federal government actually count LGBT people in this fashion."

The census allows for same-sex couples to write-in a partner's name, or mark a box labeled "unmarried partner."

"It is getting a bit more finer grain in measuring the diversity of America," said Takei. "But those that are not partnered, still don't have an opportunity to define who they are in terms of sexual orientation."

To be counted, all census forms must be postmarked April 1.
