Two Arrests in Brazen Daytime Check Cashing Business Killing

Police say two men were caught on camera shooting the female clerk and robbing the store

Police on Saturday announced two arrests, including a complete confession from the suspected shooter, in the killing of a store clerk at a check cashing business in Chino.

Chino police responded to the Check 'n Go in the 12000 block of Central Avenue after receiving a call just after 1 p.m. Friday that the store had been robbed and the a female employee might have been shot, the Chino Police Department said in a news release.

The woman, identified as Vanessa Martinez, 24, from Riverside, died at a hospital. It was not clear if she was working alone.

SWAT officers arrested 43-year-old Jorge Esteban Cisneros, from Ontario, after serving a search warrant in the 900 block of Phillips Avenue in Ontario.

Detectives said they were given a complete confession from Cisneros, and authorities believe Cisneros was the shooter in the killing.

A second man, 29-year-old David Mendez, was located in the 400 block of County Road in Ponoma, police said. He was taken into custody as his involvement in the incident is verified, officials said.

The two men were booked at the West Valley Detention Center in connection with an investigation of robbery and murder.

Police had announced Friday they were offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest of two men involved in the case.

Two men were caught on camera walking through the door, shooting the clerk, and then robbing the store before taking off in a dark-colored four door Nissan Altima, Chino police said.

One was described as a Hispanic male with a medium build, about 20-years-old, wearing a Boston Red Sox baseball cap, a light gray zip-up hoodie sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes.

The second was described as a man with a dark complexion, possibly Hispanic or African-American, around 30-years-old with a stocky build, wearing a dark baseball cap, a dark zip-up hoodie sweatshirt and dark pants.
