City's Largest Supergraphics Coming Down
The removal of the signs may not enough to avoid fines
An 11 story advertising icon on Highland Ave is being taken down following a cease-and-desist letter to the advertising company who posted it.
City Atty. Carmen Trutanich issued the letter to CBS Outdoor regarding the giant supergraphics posted on the faces of a public storage building at 1025 N. Highland Ave.
According to the LA Times:
The CBS Outdoor signs have been viewed as a major safety hazard by city prosecutors and surrounding neighbors. One of the images broke free in a wind storm, split in two and fell to the ground earlier this year, said Robert Eicholz, a Hollywood resident who works in a nearby office building."The wind got up under that thing and ripped it into pieces," said Eicholz, who said the tattered sign was an advertisement for the Apple iPod.
Chief Deputy City Atty. William Carter said the removal of the signs may not be enough to avoid fines and that past violations have to addressed, the Times reported.
An attorney for CBS said they did not agree with the cease-and-desist letter and that they are looking to possibly reduce and relocate the advertising.
