Closures Coming to 5 Fwy Three Nights in a Row

Construction of a new freeway overlapping the old Santa Ana (5) Freeway in the southeast corner of Los Angeles County will mean a full freeway shutdown in both directions for three nights in a row beginning Sunday.

The southbound 5 Freeway will be closed at 11 p.m. Sunday night at the interchange with the 605 Freeway, and will remain closed until about 5 a.m., Caltrans announced.

Northbound Interstate 5 will be blocked off at Norwalk Boulevard at midnight Sunday night, and will also reopen at 5 a.m.

Traffic lanes in the immediate area will be closed as early as 9 p.m. those nights, such as ramps from the 605 to the southbound 5, and the 5 north transition ramps to both directions of the 605.

Caltrans recommended that drivers use the 605 and 91 freeways around the closures.

The same pattern will be repeated Monday and Tuesday nights.
